Fourth Accident Reported On New Tiruchy Flyover In Coimbatore Within Months Of Inauguration

The last biker death was reported on July 14 after the biker hit the parapet wall and fell off the bridge.

Chennai: Two cars collided with each other on the newly-opened flyover on Tiruchy Road at Sungam in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The two cars got involved in the accident after the car which was moving first applied a sudden brake before rumble strips installed by the police for speed control and was hit by the following car at the rear-end of it. In the impact, both the drivers suffered minor injuries.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, this is the fourth accident on the flyover at a particular sport since the time of its inaugural on June 11.

On Wednesday, two cars were traveling in the same direction to Ramanathapuram from Coimbatore Government Hospital. The car moving in the front was overspeeding despite a speed control enforced on the bridge. Upon nearing a rumble strip installed by police, the first car applied a sudden brake and the second car immediately hit the rear-end of the former.

The police after the second death closed the flyover for a while and installed rumble strips and reflective stickers. They also imposed a speed limit of 30 km and reopened it on July 9.
