Former Rajya Sabha MP From Tamil Nadu La Ganesan Appointed As Governor Of Manipur
According to reports, La Ganesan is going to replace Governor Najma Heptulla who retired in early August.
Chennai: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday appointed former BJP Tamil Nadu state unit president and former Rajya Sabha MP La Ganesan as the Governor of Manipur. In a release, Press Secretary to the President Ajay Kumar Singh said that the President was pleased to appoint La Ganesan as the Governor of Manipur from the date he assumes charge of the office.
According to reports, La Ganesan is going to replace Governor Najma Heptulla who retired in early August.
La Ganesan started his political journey by serving as a pracharak in RSS. In 1970, La Ganesan left his government job and joined RSS in the presence of the then RSS functionaries. He also decided not to be involved in marital life and started to engage in public life full-time.

Following this, he was appointed as the national secretary of BJP. He was then given the post of Vice President of BJP. Later, he was made the president of BJP's Tamil Nadu state unit.
La Ganesan contested in the 2009 and 2014 Parliamentary elections from South Chennai but was defeated.
He also served as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. In October 2016, La Ganesan was the lone contestant from BJP for Madhya Pradesh and was elected unopposed. He replaced union minister Najma Heptullah on August 20, 2016 since she was appointed as Manipur Governor.
However, La Ganesan has been active in Tamil Nadu politics and even in February before Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections La Ganesan urged AIADMK and Sasikala, aide of former AIADMK Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to resolve their differences and face the elections as a unified party.
