Chennai: Old Under-Renovation Building Collapses In Armenian Street, 2 Injured

Parrys Building Collapse: All the injured were rushed to Government Stanley Hospital for treatment. 

Two persons were injured after an old under renovation building collapsed in Armenia Street near Parry's Corner in Chennai on Wednesday. 

According to ANI, "An old building under renovation at Armenian Street, near Parrys Corner collapses. A few workers are feared trapped under the debris. Rescue operation underway."

The police and rescue service personnel were engaged in removing the debris to rescue the trapped persons. All the injured were rushed to Government Stanley Hospital for treatment.

According to The Hindu, the Chennai police said that the mishap took place while the workers were renovating an old building.

After the incident, the police said that they were immediately alerted and an information was passed on to Fire and Rescue Services control room. 

The police said that the Fire and Rescue Services personnel found the rescue operation difficult since Armenian Street was narrow and busy. 

The senior police officers including Joint Commissioner of Police (North) R.V. Ramya Bharathi were on the site to monitor the rescue operation based on the instruction provided by Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal, said a report on The Hindu.

In January 2023, a 22-year-old software engineer died after a wall of a building that was being demolished collapsed and fell on her on Anna Salai. The engineer was working at United Techno Info Systems Private Limited in Murugesan Naicket Complex on Greams Road.

After the incident, the police said that the 60-year-old building was demolished without following any safety precautions. The police arrested earthmover owner Balaji and operator Gunasekaran for using the equipment without any safety procedures.
