'CBI Team Found Nothing, Not Named In FIR': Chidambaram On Raids At His Properties

Chennai: The search team found nothing nor seized anything, said Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram on Tuesday hours after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) started to raid his residence and the house and offices of Sivaganga MLA and his son Karti Chidambaram. The former Union Finance Minister also pointed out that the timing of the search was interesting.
On Tuesday, Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, “This morning, a CBI team searched my residence at Chennai and my official residence in Delhi. The team showed me an FIR in which I am not named as an accused.”
“The search team found nothing and seized nothing. I may point out that the timing of the search is interesting,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “BJP is trying to weaken Congress by raiding its members. Chidambaram is a good lawyer & economist. This is the effect of speeches and debates he participates in. People vocal in Congress are being targeted. They want to bring autocracy into the state.”
The CBI started to raid nine locations in Chennai, Mumbai, Karnataka, Odisha and Punjab related to illegal gratification case. Karti had also allegedly received a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from a person to provide visas to 250 Chinese nationals to help them work in Talwandi Sabo power project in Punjab.

After the CBI started the search, Karti Chidambaram said, "I have lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record."
"My office has just updated on the “record” twice in 2015, once in 2017, twice in 2018 & today :) 6!" he said.
