Tamil Nadu: 10-year-old Dies, Her Father, 17 Others Develop Food Poisoning After Consuming Food In Restaurant

The police have registered a case and detained two persons including the restaurant owner Khader Basha and the chef.

Chennai: A 10-year-old girl died allegedly after consuming food at a restaurant in Arni in Tiruvannamalai district on Friday. Her father, who also consumed the food along with her, is also said to be unstable.

More than 17 other customers who had food in the restaurant, "Seven Star Briyani", in Arni are suffering from food poisoning and related complications, police said.

According to reports, Loshini (10) went to the restaurant along with her family and returned home after consuming tandoori chicken, biryani and parotta. However, the next day, Loshini and her father developed diarrhoea and stomach pain and went to a nearby clinic for a check-up. But soon, Loshini got fever and her condition deteriorated, following which she was taken to Arni Government Hospital. 

However, the doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival. Following this, her father was also admitted to Arni Government Hospital. Others who developed diarrhoea and other symptoms have also been brought to the same hospital or treatment.

Talking to The New Indian Express, Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar Reddy said over 17 people who consumed food at “Seven Star Briyani” restaurant in Arni developed food poisoning and adverse reactions. While others are slowly recovering, Loshini's father is still unstable, he said.

The police also registered a complaint and detained two persons, including restaurant owner Khader Basha and the chef. They have initiated further investigations. 

The police have sealed the restaurant and revoked the licence of the food outlet. They have collected the food samples and sent them for testing in Salem. They are also waiting for the post-mortem report of the girl to take further action in the case.
