Bengal Governor, Mamata Banerjee To Visit Murshidabad Days After 3 Dead In Violence

West Bengal Governor and Chief Minister will visit Murshidabad to address recent clashes. An SIT has been formed to investigate, and the state government is providing support to victims.

Days after clashes erupted between two groups in West Bengal's Murshidabad, the West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose and CM Mamata Banerjee will visit the conflict-hit district tomorrow.

"The Governor will be going to Murshidabad tomorrow," said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
 

She further said that an SIT has been formed to investigate the unrest in the region. The TMC chief further added that the state government will build houses for the victims and that the administration is trying to restore the confidence of the people.

"I will go to Murshidabad. An SIT has been formed to investigate the unrest in Murshidabad. The state government will build houses for the victims. The Administration is trying to restore the confidence of the people of Murshidabad," Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said as quoted by news agency ANI.

News agency PTI quoting Raj Bhawan officials reported that the governor may leave for Murshidabad tonight and visit the areas tomorrow

Three people were killed, several persons injured, and many properties were set ablaze during the clashes last week, prompting a heavy deployment of police, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and central forces in the area. 

Situation Under Control In Murshidabad: Bengal Govt To Calcutta HC

The West Bengal government submitted a report before the Calcutta High Court and claimed that the law and order situation in violence-hit Murshidabad district was under control.A division bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Raja Basu Chowdhury was hearing a petition moved by the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, who claimed that bomb blasts took place during communal riots in the Muslim-majority district and prayed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) be handed over the probe into the violence.

The state government also submitted before the court that adequate steps have been taken by the police and administration to quell the violence in the district.
