Uttarakhand: 53 Passengers Rescued From Bus Stuck In Fast-Flowing River In Haridwar. WATCH

Police said that 53 passengers travelling in a bus were rescued after their bus got stuck in a swollen river in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.

Around 53 people have been rescued after a bus they were traveling in got stuck in a river swollen due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand's Haridwar. A video shared by the news agency ANI showed the bus stuck in the waters amid a heavy flow. Passengers could be seen walking together to reach the land side from where they climbed a rope hung for them to reach the bridge. Police confirmed that all the passengers were rescued from the bus.

The hill state this year received massive rainfall leading to landslides and flash floods in the state. Notably, both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have suffered massive losses due to persistent rains disrupting the normal lives of residents and hampering the tourism business in both regions.

 

Two Dead In Odisha Flood, Several Houses Damaged

More than 150 houses were damaged and at least two died as low-pressure-induced heavy rain lashed Odisha on Thursday. Connectivity was affected severely after roads submerged hitting over 11,000 people in Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi, while the rain wreaked havoc in Bolangir, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada, the special relief commissioner's (SRC) office said.

From 8.30 am on Thursday, Bolangir received 108 mm rainfall, followed by Sonepur (73.4 mm), Titlagarh (55.4), Keonjhar (46.8 mm) and Dhenkanal (44 mm), the IMD said, as reported by PTI.

 

UP Rains: Many Cities Flood, IMD Issues Alert As 19 Die 

Heavy rain battered many districts in the state of Uttar Pradesh over the last few days. A red alert for heavy rains was issued in six districts including Barabanki and Gonda, which have been the most impacted by the recent spell of rain, which killed 19 people in the state on Monday, news agency PTI reported. According to a senior official, over 100 mm of rain fell in seven districts of the state in the last 48 hours, while 10 additional districts received 50 mm. Over 250 mm of rain fell in portions of Bahraich and Barabanki in the last 24 hours.
