Mahant Narendra Giri Death: UP Govt Recommends CBI Probe Into Death Of Influential Seer
In the suicide letter, Mahant Narendra Giri had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life.
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday recommended a CBI probe into the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri, the state’s home department said.
"On the instructions of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a probe by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has been recommended in the incident pertaining to the sad death of the chairman of Akhara Parishad Mahant Narendra Giri," it said in a tweet in Hindi.

The influential Hindu seer was found dead on Monday at Baghambari Muth in Allahabad. His body was found hanging from the ceiling by his disciples.
In the suicide letter, Mahant had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life. The seer had written he was upset with one of his disciples. A post-mortem report of the Hindu seer Narendra Giri suggested that the holy man may have died by asphyxiation, as per the Hindustan Times report. He was laid to rest in Prayagraj.
The Uttarakhand Police on Monday took into custody Mahant Anand Giri, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri for allegedly abetting the suicide of his mentor.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the UP government to investigate the death of the influential Hindu Guru. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday promised to spare no culprits in the case. Asserting that evidence has been collected in connection with the seer's death, Adityanath said the case will be solved soon. Anand Giri was sent to 14-day of judicial custody on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Anand Giri told reporters that he is ready to face any investigation into the matter. He said that Mahant Narendra Giri has been killed by someone with vested interests, who had earlier created a dispute between him and the senior Mahant.
He also demanded a probe into the role of some people living with Narendra Giri who had allegedly swindled crores of rupees from the ashram.
