Over 2.5 to 3 lakh devotees paid obeisance at the Ram temple in Ayodhya till afternoon, with many still waiting to do the same, added a senior official.
Notably, security was heightened outside the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to control the crowd. To ensure safety, over 8,000 policemen are overseeing the arrangements, and everything is under control, Shishir mentioned.
Amidst the merriment of Lord Ram, devotees thronged the gates of the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, jostling to enter the temple that opened to the public on Tuesday, a day after the consecration of the new Ram Lalla idol, reported news agency PTI.
According to information, security personnel drawn from the police and paramilitary forces had a tough time controlling the crowd of devotees for some hours, many of whom had been queuing up since late Monday night. At least one devotee fainted as people pushed and shoved their way toward the temple, according to a PTI report.
As the morning gave way to the afternoon, the crowd swelled to several hundreds of thousands, with people dragging themselves towards the main gateway that faces the Ram Path.
Carrying flags bearing the visages of Lord Ram and chanting "Jai Shri Ram," the devotees waited for hours in the biting cold before the doors of the grand temple opened.
The consecration of the Ram Lalla idol was held amid religious fervour on Monday in the newly built temple in Ayodhya.
