Joshimath Sinking: PMO Calls Important Meet On Feb 10, NDMA To Share Details

The meeting will be convened under the chairmanship of Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has called an important meeting on February 10 regarding the Joshimath subsidence. The meeting will be convened under the chairmanship of Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will give the latest details about Joshimath sinking'. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will also join the meeting to be held in Delhi virtually.

Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting of the Pushkar Dhami government, which was slated to be held on February 10, also stands cancelled.

Cracks have reemerged in houses and structures in Joshimath, after a brief respite of about a week with no new cracks, reported IANS on Monday, February 6.

The cracks along the Badrinath Highway near Singhdhar Ward have also been growing.

Scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) reported that crackometers have been installed in more than 60 houses and were monitored for 15 days.

The Rapid Action Force (RAF), deployed by the Central government to the city, ended their mission on February 5. The team was scheduled to stay in Joshimath until February 10 to conduct inspections and investigations in various affected areas.

RAF Deputy Commandant Mukesh Kumar, who arrived in Joshimath with 50 personnel on February 4, had stated that the team's mission was to collect data and assess the damage caused by land subsidence in affected areas.

Last month, the Uttarakhand government reported that affected families were being rehabilitated and relief efforts, including the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force and the SDRF, were ongoing.

Joshimath, a popular destination for pilgrimage and skiing, is slowly sinking, causing damage to homes, roads, and fields. The chief minister has already ordered the immediate evacuation of 600 families.

On January 16, the Supreme Court declined to declare the crisis a national disaster, stating that the state high court should handle the matter.
