Uttar Pradesh: VAT On Petrol And Diesel Won't Be Hiked In Future, Says CM Yogi Adityanath

VAT on Petrol, Diesel: The Yogi Adityanath government had lowered the VAT on petrol and diesel in November last year.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel won't be increased in the future. The announcement was made after Adityanath reviewed the revenue collection in the state in a meeting with officers of the tax department at his official residence, sources told ABP News.

Adityanath said due to planned efforts, the state has seen continous hike in revenue collection. "In 2017-18, the total revenue collection was Rs 58,700 crore which increased to Rs 1 lakh crore in 2021-22. In the first quarter of the current fiscal, against the target of Rs 31,786 crore, Rs 32,386 crore has been collected. This situation could be termed as satisfactory," Adityanath said.

In May, the UP government reduced VAT imposed on diesel and petrol by Rs 1.03 and 1.40 per litre respectively. Last year in November, the Yogi Adityanath government had also lowered VAT on petrol and diesel, making them cheaper by Rs 12 per litre in the state.

Uttar Pradesh took the step after the Centre slashed the excise duty on petrol and diesel and urged the states to follow suit by lowering VAT on both the products to give relief to consumers. The Centre had announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre, and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre.

Petrol was being sold across Uttar Pradesh at an average price of Rs 96.98 on Friday. Diesel was priced at Rs 89.56 per litre in Lucknow.
