BJP MLA Satish Mahana, Lone Candidate, Set To Become Speaker Of Uttar Pradesh Assembly
Mahana got elected as the MLA from Maharajpur assembly seat for the eighth consecutive term. He served as the minister of industrial development in the previous state cabinet ministry.
New Delhi: Veteran BJP MLA Satish Mahana is all set to become the speaker of the 18th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, reports new agency PTI. MLA from Maharajpur constituency in Kanpur district, Mahana filed his nomination papers on Monday for the post of state’s Legislative Assembly speaker.
Mahana was the lone candidate to file nomination, quoted PTI as sources in the assembly said.
Mahana filed his nomination papers with the Principal Secretary of the assembly, Pradip Kumar Dubey, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak and senior minister Surya Pratap Shahi among others.
Congress legislature party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) leader Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, were also present, reported the news agency.
March 29 has been fixed as the date for election of the Assembly speaker by Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel.

The Bharatiya Janata Party registered its victory on 225 seats of the total 403 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the recent elections. BJP allies, Apna Dal (Sonelal) got 12 seats and the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad) got six seats.
Samajwadi party emerged as the main opposition party with 111 seats while its ally, Rashtriya Lok Dal got eight and the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party six.
Congress and Jansatta Dal Loktantrik had won two seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party got one seat.
