Mumbai Woman Assaulted & Forced Into Prostitution Bid, Rescued In Hyderabad

Dismissing speculation that the victim was a Bollywood or TV actress, police clarified that she had previously worked in a Dubai nightclub for two years.

A 28-year-old woman from Mumbai was rescued by police after being allegedly assaulted and locked up in a Hyderabad flat by three women who attempted to force her into prostitution, officials said on Monday. The rescue operation took place on Sunday after the woman managed to call Dial-100, prompting a police team to rush to the location. Officers unlocked the door and freed her, but the three accused had already fled the scene.

Dismissing speculation that the victim was a Bollywood or TV actress, police clarified that she had previously worked in a Dubai nightclub for two years, as per PTI.

Woman 'Locked' In Hyderabad Apartment

According to her complaint filed at Masab Tank Police Station, the woman was lured to Hyderabad with the promise of opening a clothing showroom and an offer of Rs 20,000. However, after her arrival, she was denied payment and allegedly coerced into prostitution.

Initially, she was told to check into an apartment instead of a hotel and when she questioned, they reportedly said that the apartment belonged to the store which she was about to launch.

On the day of the alleged event, three women entered her room under the guise of helping her prepare, as per a report on Times of India. But instead, they forcibly trapped her in the sex trade.

When she resisted, the three women allegedly attacked her and locked her in the room. Later, the woman fled abandoning her in a semi-conscious state.

Investigators revealed that a Mumbai-based man, believed to be a mediator, was responsible for sending her to Hyderabad. Search operations are underway to track down the three accused women and the mediator.

They have formed special teams to track down and arrest the suspects.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 (PITA), and further investigations are ongoing.
