Tamil Nadu To Launch Rs 40 Cr Residential Coaching Facility In Chennai For UPSC Aspirants

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a major initiative in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday unveiling plans for a state-of-the-art residential coaching facility aimed at supporting 500 civil service aspirants. The upcoming center, which will be located in Shenoy Nagar, Chennai, is expected to be developed at a cost of Rs 40 crore.

The Chief Minister said the project is part of the government’s broader commitment to empowering youth and enhancing skill development under the flagship 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme, as reported by The Hindu. The initiative is designed to give aspirants from Tamil Nadu a competitive edge in cracking the highly challenging Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations.

Stalin highlighted the scheme’s impact, pointing out that it had already shown results in improving the state's UPSC performance. Noting a sharp dip in successful candidates—from a strong showing before 2016 to just 27 selections in 2021—he explained that the government had stepped in with targeted support, reported Times of India. This included a monthly stipend of Rs 7,500 for 10 months for candidates preparing for the prelims, and an additional one-time assistance of Rs 25,000 for those who clear the preliminary stage.

The efforts appear to be paying off. This year, over 57 candidates from Tamil Nadu cleared the UPSC exam, with 50 of them having benefited from the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme. To celebrate this achievement, a special felicitation event will be held at the Anna Administrative Staff College on Saturday, Stalin announced, reported DT Next.
