Tamil Nadu: Three Class 12 Students Held For Bringing Knife To School To 'Attack' Teacher

The students, all Class 12 at a government higher secondary school in Nanguneri, were reportedly upset over receiving low marks in their examinations.

In Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, three government school students were apprehended by Nanguneri police on Thursday, August 8, after allegedly bringing a knife to school with the intention of attacking their teacher. The students, all Class 12 at a government higher secondary school in Nanguneri, were reportedly upset over receiving low marks in their examinations.

According to sources of The New Indian Express, the dispute with their teacher escalated, leading one of the students to bring a knife to school on Wednesday. The teacher, upon learning of the situation, immediately alerted the Nanguneri police. The police conducted an inquiry with the students and subsequently apprehended the trio on Thursday.

They were later sent to a government home after being presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.

In a separate incident, a group of students attacked a Class 11 student at a private school in Valliyoor, also in Tirunelveli, due to a previous enmity. The Valliyoor police registered a case against seven minors involved in the attack and produced them before the Juvenile Justice Board in Tirunelveli on Wednesday.

However, Naguneri has made news for similar crime in another school. In August 2023, a government school student Chinnadurai and his 13-year-old sister from Nanguneri were brutally attacked by a group of six minors who broke into their home and assaulted him with machetes.

This group had been bullying and discriminating against Chinnadurai, aiming to undermine his academic achievements. The attack was reportedly motivated by his outstanding academic performance, and his sister was injured while trying to protect him.

Despite the caste-based violence, Chinnadurai achieved an impressive score of 469 out of 600 in his Class 12 exams, the results of which were released on Monday, May 6. He credited his success to the consistent support from his teachers and the district administration.
