Two political workers were hacked to death in Tamil Nadu within 24 hours in two separate incidents which has now sparked a row in the state.
In the Sivagangai district, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker Selvakumar was hacked to death while an AIADMK worker was murdered in the neighbouring Cuddalore district.
Selvakumar was chief of the party's district cooperative wing and an accused in a murder case.
As per the investigators, the murder of Selvakumar had its roots in personal enmity, reported NDTV.
Unidentified men attacked Padmanabhan, AIADMK's Ward Secretary from Cuddalore district, reported India Today.
He was first hit by a car while returning on a motorbike and then hacked to death, as per the NDTV report. Investigators from Puducherry have reached Cuddalore and the Police are suspecting this to be a revenge killing, the report added.
The killings took place within a month after a political functionary Armstrong, the state chief of Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, was killed by a six-member gang.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai slammed Chief Minister MK Stalin saying the CM "should examine if he has the moral right to continue" with the post.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu has gone from bad to worse.
"After the brutal hacking of BSP leader K Armstrong, a Dalit leader that took place at the beginning of July... In the last three days, we have seen three consecutive hacking and political murders taking place - one from the BJP, one from AIDMK and one from Congress," he said.
Lashing out at the Congress as well, he added: "This shows that law & order are out of the control of MK Stalin... But, there is no time for Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party to take a stand on it. INDI alliance has no position on it. This shows their two-faced agenda, their double face and their cowardice to speak about the issue that is inconvenient for them."
