Turning the Tide:  Maan Government Making Punjab Drug-Free

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, the Maan government is determined to make the state drug-free.

Punjab, once celebrated as the vibrant and prosperous ‘Rangla Punjab,’ has long struggled with the menace of drug abuse. Recognizing the urgency of the issue, the Bhagwant Singh Maan government has launched a massive, multi-pronged campaign to eradicate drug addiction and restore the state’s glory.

A Government on a Mission

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, the Maan government is determined to make the state drug-free. With the theme Pray, Pledge, and Play, a widespread anti-drug initiative was launched in October 2023, where over 35,000 children pledged to stay away from drugs. This movement has since gained significant momentum, inspiring communities across Punjab to take a stand against substance abuse.

Cracking Down on Drug Networks

The Punjab Police, is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the government, has been working relentlessly to dismantle drug cartels. In 2024 alone, law enforcement agencies arrested 8,935 drug traffickers, including 210 major kingpins, seizing 1,099 kg of heroin, 991 kg of opium, 414 quintals of poppy husk, and 2.94 lakh opioid capsules and injections. Additionally, drug money worth INR 14.73 crore was recovered from traffickers, tightening the noose around the illegal drug trade.

To further cripple these networks, police have confiscated 531 properties worth INR 335 crore belonging to major drug lords, ensuring that crime does pay. This decisive action sends a strong message: Punjab will not tolerate drug mafias.

A Multi-Faceted Approach to a Drug-Free Punjab

Beyond law enforcement, the government is actively engaging in rehabilitation, awareness, and youth empowerment. Various districts have launched The Hope Initiative  and other local campaigns to educate and rehabilitate those affected by drug addiction. Police departments across Punjab are also running de-addiction drives to ensure that individuals caught in the cycle of substance abuse receive the necessary support to reintegrate into society.

Recognizing that the future of Punjab lies in its youth, the Maan government is committed to providing alternative pathways for young people. By fostering education, skill development, and sports, the administration is steering the younger generation away from drugs and toward a brighter future.

Restoring Punjab’s Legacy

For years, the issue of drug abuse has been a major talking point in political discourse. However, under the Maan government, concrete actions are replacing empty rhetoric. With a comprehensive and aggressive anti-drug strategy in place, Punjab is reclaiming its lost glory.

The mission is clear: A drug-free Punjab. A thriving Punjab. A Rangla Punjab once again!
