Startups Powering Punjab’s Economic Growth

The Maan Government’s progressive startup policy is fostering a conducive environment for new businesses and industries.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab is rapidly emerging as a major investment hub. Hundreds of startups and businesses, both big and small, are thriving in the state, creating thousands of direct employment opportunities. Many Punjab-based startups are making their mark on the global stage, bringing pride to the region.

A Startup-Friendly Ecosystem

The Maan Government’s progressive startup policy is fostering a conducive environment for new businesses and industries. Budding entrepreneurs are receiving extensive support, ensuring that their ventures not only take off but also thrive in a competitive market. The new startup policy offers multiple incentives, including a three-year tax exemption for eligible startups, significantly reducing financial strain in their formative years. As of 2024, over 2,500 startups have registered in Punjab, contributing significantly to the state's economy.

Women Entrepreneurs at the Forefront

Recognizing the immense potential of women in business, the Maan Government has introduced special provisions to encourage female entrepreneurs. A remarkable 33% of government-backed startup initiatives are reserved for women-led ventures. This initiative is not just about gender inclusivity but also about harnessing the untapped potential of talented women across Punjab. In the past year alone, women-led startups in Punjab have attracted investments worth over ₹500 crore, showcasing their growing influence.

Youth Driving Punjab’s Startup Boom

Thanks to the proactive measures of the Mann Government, Punjab’s youth are increasingly drawn towards innovative industries such as IT, digital marketing, pick-and-drop services, and e-commerce. These sectors are providing dynamic opportunities, allowing young entrepreneurs to innovate and create impact-driven solutions. In 2023, Punjab’s IT and digital services sector witnessed a 40% growth, generating employment for over 50,000 youth across the state.

A Resounding Response

To further accelerate the startup culture, incubation centers have been set up in cities like Mohali and Ludhiana. These hubs are nurturing talent, offering mentorship, and equipping entrepreneurs with the necessary resources to scale their ventures. Punjab’s youth are not just participants in the digital revolution, they are actively shaping it. Their innovative startups are driving economic progress and positioning Punjab as a frontrunner in the Indian startup landscape. As per recent reports, Punjab-based startups have collectively generated a revenue of over ₹7,000 crore in the last two years, showcasing the state's robust entrepreneurial spirit.

The overwhelming response from entrepreneurs and investors alike signals a bright future. With government support and the relentless drive of its youth, Punjab is on its way to becoming a leading startup powerhouse in the country. The day isn’t far when Punjab will be counted among India’s top startup destinations.
