A Bright Future for Sports in Punjab: Nurturing Champions, Shaping Legacies

In a groundbreaking move, the Mann government has initiated the establishment of sports nurseries across Punjab to identify and nurture sporting talent in youth aged 6 to 17.

Punjab, a land of fertile soil and a proud heritage, has consistently produced athletes who have made the state and the nation proud on the global stage. The medals and honours won by these athletes shine like stars, brightening the horizon of sports in Punjab. Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Maan government is working diligently at every level to support and nurture these future champions.

Sports Nursery: A Training Ground for Excellence

In a groundbreaking move, the Mann government has initiated the establishment of sports nurseries across Punjab to identify and nurture sporting talent in youth aged 6 to 17. With plans to set up 1,000 sports nurseries, this initiative will benefit nearly 60,000 young athletes, providing them with world-class training and resources.

The first phase will see 250 sports nurseries set up, equipped with the latest sports gear and professional coaches to mentor the athletes. To ensure the success of this initiative, the Punjab government has allocated ₹50 crores from the current fiscal budget.

Fostering a Love for Sports and Fitness

Sports in Punjab is more than just a career—it's a way of life. To promote fitness and the spirit of sportsmanship among the youth, the state government is organizing the "Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan" event, featuring 37 different sports. This festival of sports aims to ignite a passion for physical activity, with awards and certificates being presented to encourage and motivate the participants.

Rewarding Excellence and Hard Work

In recognition of the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of its athletes, the Mann government has doubled the prize money for both national and international competitions, reflecting its deep respect and commitment to honouring their achievements. A new sports policy has been introduced, ensuring that deserving athletes are adequately rewarded. In the current fiscal year alone, over ₹54 crores have been awarded to more than 14,700 athletes. 11 athletes have been offered prestigious government jobs, further recognizing their contributions to Punjab's sporting legacy.

Additionally, scholarships for 180 top-tier athletes have been doubled, with monthly amounts now set at ₹16,000 and ₹12,000, respectively. This financial support reflects the Maan government’s commitment to grooming world-class athletes who can proudly represent Punjab & the country on the international stage.

A Vision for the Future: Investing in Sports Education

Beyond just training and support, the Punjab government is laying a strong foundation for sports education and research. A dedicated budget of ₹34 crores has been sanctioned for the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University to further research in sports science, technology, management, and coaching. This initiative will ensure that athletes are not only physically prepared but also equipped with the scientific knowledge to excel in their respective sports.

Maan Government Commitment to building a Sporting Legacy

Punjab's future in sports looks bright, with the Maan government committed to fostering talent, promoting fitness, and investing in infrastructure and education. The groundwork is being laid for Punjab’s athletes to not only achieve excellence but to also inspire future generations. As more champions rise, Punjab will continue to shine on the global sports stage, setting new benchmarks in sporting success.
