ED Grills Abhishek Banerjee's Wife For Over 7 Hours In Bengal Teachers' Recruitment Scam

Rujira went to the ED office at the CGO complex in the Salt Lake area at around 11 am and the interrogation continued after 6 pm.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday questioned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Narula Banerjee for over seven hours at its city office in connection with its ongoing probe into the West Bengal teacher’s recruitment scam case, an official said.

Rujira went to the ED office at the CGO complex in the Salt Lake area at around 11 am and the interrogation continued after 6 pm. She entered the ED's office as a large posse of team of policemen stood on guard outside it since morning.

"We are questioning her on the basis of our findings in the jobs scam. We are asking her about the specific roles of the directors of two companies involved in the alleged scam. She held an important position in both the companies at one point of time. She is being interrogated about that too," the ED official told PTI.

It was the first time that the ED asked Rujira to appear for questioning in the teachers’ recruitment scam case. Earlier, she was summoned in the coal smuggling case.

The probe body also conducted search operations in several rice mills, besides a few shops in at least four places in West Bengal's Nadia district in connection with its ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularity, the official said.

"A good amount of money amassed from the jobs scam was invested in the rice mills. We have documents to prove that. Today's raids are being held in this connection," the ED official said.

Last month, ED grilled Abhishek Banerjee for over nine hours in connection with the investigation into the West Bengal school jobs scam.

The Diamond Harbour MP had skipped the coordination committee meeting of the opposition bloc INDIA in Delhi as he appeared before the agency sleuths.

"Banerjee was called to provide evidence in connection with the school recruitment irregularities," an ED official had told PTI.
