Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: Video Shows Flooded Basement Where 3 IAS Aspirants Died

Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: Three civil services aspirants drowned in a flooded basement of a coaching center. A video that surfaced online purportedly shows people rescuing those trapped in the deluge.

Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: Three civil services aspirants lost their lives after the basement of a building housing a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, central Delhi, was flooded following heavy rainfall. The deceased, identified as Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nivin Dalwin, were trapped in the rapidly inundated basement. An 18-second video that surfaced online purportedly shows people rescuing those trapped in the deluge.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) concluded a seven-hour-long rescue operation, during which the bodies of the three aspirants were recovered. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan confirmed, "NDRF's search operation has ended, and three bodies have been recovered", news agency PTI reported. The operation involved local police and fire department personnel.

Another video showed NDRF personnel taking out the bodies of the deceased.

Students Protests In Delhi After Coaching Centre Deaths

Shortly after the incident, protests erupted outside the coaching centre as students raised slogans against the authorities, blaming negligence for the tragedy.

Today, students gathered at Karol Bagh Metro Station to protest against the deaths.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the basement, housing a library, was quickly submerged, trapping several individuals, news agency PTI reported. CCTV footage is being reviewed to understand the sequence of events leading to the disaster.

The Delhi Fire Department (DFS) received a call about waterlogging at Rau's IAS Study Circle around 7 pm on Saturday. "A total of five fire tenders were rushed to the site, but the basement was already full of water when they arrived," a DFS official reported, as quoted by PTI.

Revenue Minister Atishi directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to initiate an inquiry and submit a report within 24 hours. "A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate how this incident happened. Whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared," Atishi posted on X.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the site and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration. "Delhi Government's criminal negligence is responsible for this mishap. Jal Board Minister Atishi and local MLA Durgesh Pathak should take responsibility and resign," Sachdeva stated. Swaraj added, "For the past week, locals were urging AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak to get the drain here cleaned. However, Durgesh Pathak didn't listen to them. Arvind Kejriwal, Durgesh Pathak and the AAP government are entirely responsible for this incident."

Earlier this week, another tragedy struck central Delhi when a 26-year-old civil services aspirant was electrocuted after touching an iron gate following heavy rain in Patel Nagar.
