Andhra Floods: Indian Navy Rescues 28 Stranded Individuals From Koyamadaram; Heavy Rain Likely To Continue

The state of Andhra Pradesh has been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall across various coastal regions.

The Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy successfully rescued 28 stranded individuals from the Koyamadaram region, located 250 km west of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The rescue operation, carried out on Friday, faced challenging weather conditions but was executed effectively.

Taking to X, Eastern Naval Command said, "🇮🇳 In response to a request from the State Govt of #AndhraPradesh for Rescue and Relief Operations due to massive flooding, #IndianNavy's Air Station INS Dega,  #EasternNavalCommand, launched  extensive #SAR operations with seven aircraft including P8I, Dornier, Sea Kings, and ALH helicopters. 🚁Despite challenging weather, Indian Navy rescued 28 stranded individuals from Koyamadaram, 250 km west of #Visakhapatnam."

Heavy Rainfall To Continue In Andhra 

The state of Andhra Pradesh has been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall across various coastal regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, indicating extremely heavy rainfall, for Alluri Sitarama Raju and Eluru districts on Friday. Additionally, an orange alert, signifying heavy to very heavy rainfall, was issued for several other districts including Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, and NTR districts, according to a report on ANI.

According to the IMD, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving extremely heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours leading up to 0830 IST on Friday. This continuous and intense rainfall has led to widespread flooding, disrupting normal life across many districts in the state.

In response to the adverse weather conditions, Alluri Sitarama Raju district collector AS Dinesh Kumar declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Friday.
