PM Modi Congratulates Lovlina, Nikhat For Winning Gold In Women Boxing Championship

PM Modi remarked on Twitter that the boxers have demonstrated amazing skill and have made India proud on several occasions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain on their gold medals at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship on Sunday.

Lovlina defeated Australia's Caitlin Parker in the 75 kg middleweight final to win gold. She won a 5-2 split decision.

“Congratulations @LovlinaBorgohai for her stupendous feat at the Boxing World Championships. She showed great skill. India is delighted by her winning the Gold medal," PM Modi tweeted. 

Nikhat, on the other hand, defeated Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0 to maintain her World championship in the 50 kg fly weight category.

Taking to twitter, PM Modi stated: “Congratulations to @nikhat_zareen for her spectacular victory at the World Boxing Championships and winning a Gold. She is an outstanding champion whose success has made India proud on many occasions."

"I did a lot of hard work for the medal. It feels good. I won the medal due to the support that I got from everyone. I am very confident & grateful to the people of the country. I hope I will continue to bring more medals for the country," said Lovlina Borgohain.

Prominent leaders from all political parties praised the boxers' historic victory at the World Championship. Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted to celebrate gold medals in both the 50 kg and 75 kg weight divisions.

Arvind Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, praised the boxers as they won gold after gold.

 “Many congratulations for this great win and gold medal @nikhat_zareen. This brilliant performance of yours has raised the prestige of the entire country,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Lauding the boxers, Congress President Kharge said: “Incredible performance by @saweetyboora and @NituGhanghas333 as they win Gold Medals at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship. We are extremely proud of your achievements!"

Gautam Gambhir, a former cricketer and BJP leader, took to Twitter and shared a collage of all four gold medalists who delivered a "sensational performance" in the Championship.
