Breakdancing Gets Included In The Olympics!! Officially Added As New Sport In 2024 Paris Games

The International Olympic Council on Monday night approved break dancing as an Olympic sport, ratifying a proposal made a year back and tested in youth Olympics. This step is seen more toward gender equality and infusion of more youth in the sports. The International Olympic Committee ratified the inclusion of breakdancing along with surfing, skateboarding and sports climbing on Monday, IOC President Thomas Bach confirmed on this major development. Rationale Behind Including Breakdancing In Olympics Sports Program  This path breaking move of sorts from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) comes at a time when the Games is looking at a complete revamp to its existing sports program in a bid to cope with the fast changing dynamics of international sports, stay lucrative with sponsors, broadcasters and appeal to younger fans. How Was Breakdancing Included In The 2024 Summer Olympics At Paris The move comes after the International Olympic Committee's new rule which allows cities hosting the Olympics to pick and propose new games that are popular in the region. According to a 2019 internal Olympic report, almost 1 million citizens around the globe have taken breakdancing as a sport and the current world champion is from Japan. India does not have federation of break dancing yet and it remains to be seen how a country that is proud of its dancing origins and entertainment, takes to this as a sport. What is breakdancing? Breakdancing or 'breaking', as it more popularly dubbed in the world of modern style dancing, has its beginnings in the United States back in the 1970s. Four decades since its inception in the American continent, breakdancing has gone onto become one of the most popular forms in the hip-hop fold of dancing. Breakdancing has now spread beyond the United States, with one millions participants estimated to have taken up the sport. The 2019 Red Bull BC One World Final in Mumbai witnessed a staggering 50 million views across streaming platforms including Facebook and YouTube, according to Reuters.
