Neeraj Chopra Is Now World No. 2 In Javelin Throw After Tokyo Olympic Gold

Tokyo2020: Neeraj Chopra is now the world no. 2 in Javelin Throw after winning the gold medal at Tokyo Games.

India's 'Golden boy', Neeraj Chopra has climbed 14 places to become the second-ranked athlete in the world in Javelin Throw after winning the gold medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. He won the gold with a throw of 87.58 meters at the finals of Tokyo 2020. Before the start of the Olympics, Neeraj's rank was 16 with 1224 points. After the Olympics, Neeraj's score has gone up to 1315 points and he secured the second rank in Javelin. The rankings are issued by World Athletics.

Neeraj's fierce competitor Johannes Vetter of Germany remains at the top with 1396 points. He still holds the no. 1 position as the rankings are not only decided by the Olympics performance but based on the performances in the Federation Cup, Indian Grand Prix-3, and Kuortane Games in Finland. In these competitions, Vetter was a no match. He had seven 90m plus throws which is an amazing achievement. (Chopra is yet to cross the 90m mark)

Marcin Krukowski of Poland had the season’s second-best throw of 89.55m. He finished third with 1302 points.  Tokyo 2020's silver medalist, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic secures the fourth spot with 1298 points.

At the Games, Neeraj Chopra's first throw went for 87.03 meters, second for 87.58 meters while the third throw was 79.79 meters. His second throw of 87.58 meters was enough for India to secure a gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

In a press conference, Neeraj expressed confidence in his abilities and said that "90 meters is my dream, and I will achieve it!"
