Background
The second fixture of the double header on Sunday is the contest between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While Mumbai are the most successful side in the history of the tournament, they are known to start slow in the tournament. However, they had a forgettable season last time around where they finished at the bottom of the table.
On the other hand, Bengaluru secured a place in the Playoffs last season but the title still eluded them in IPL 2022 as they got eliminated after losing the Qualifier 2 to Rajasthan Royals. While Rohit Sharma-led MI would look to bounce back after a disastrous season last time around, Bangalore would gear up once again to make this the season where they end the 15-year title drought and give one of the most loyal fanbases their reward for sticking with them even they did not deliver a title.
The action will return to Bengaluru and a jam-packed stadium is expected in a venue which has starved to see league matches owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. It will be the second year at the helm for Faf du Plessis in the RCB camp and he wouldn't want to star the proceedings with a defeat knowing well that the Blue and Gold Brigade could be under a bit of pressure, having to break its own streak of losing the first match of the league.
