KKR vs MI, IPL 2024: Ramandeep Singh Fined 20% Of Match Fees For IPL Code Of Conduct Breach

Ramandeep Singh fined 20 percent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against the Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Ramandeep Singh, in the team's recent match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024, has been found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct. As a result, he has been fined 20 percent of his match fees. The match took place on May 11 (Saturday) at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens Stadium.

The 27-year-old player was found to have committed a Level 1 offense according to Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He acknowledged the offense and agreed with the fine imposed by the Match Referee. In cases of Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the Match Referee is final and must be adhered to.

"Ramandeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) quoted in their statement.

What Is Article 2.2 Of IPL Code of Conduct?

According to the IPL Code of Conduct document available on IPL’s official website, Article 2.2 deals with ‘Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.’

“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.  For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” is mentioned in the document.

KKR Are First Team To Qualify For IPL 2024 Playoffs

Coming to the KKR VS MI match of IPL, Kolkata handed Mumbai an 18-run defeat and became the first team to officially qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. In the rain-marred match, Kolkata batted first and scored 157-7 in 16 overs and limited Mumbai Indians to 139-8 in their 16 overs.
