IPL 2023: Shubman Gill Becomes 4th Batter In Tournament History To Enter 800-Run Club In Single Season
Shubman Gill scored a sensational 129 off 60 balls to helps his team post a mammoth 233/3 in GT vs MI IPL 2023 Qualifier 2.
Shubman Gill continued his impressive form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a high-pressure Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians (MI), the GT opener slammed a sensational hundred to enter the record books. The right-handed batter made batting look ridiculously easy as he notched up his third hundred of the season and that too in a knockout game to help his side post a mammoth 233/3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
An extraordinary century in a must-win game 👊🏻

With this innings, Gill shattered several records while also showing that he has the potential to break many such batting records in the years to come. The 23-year-old became the fourth batter in the history of the tournament to enter the 800-run club in a single season. He achieved the feat while also becoming the leading run-scorer of this season, getting past Faf du Plessis' tally whose Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have already been eliminated. Prior to Gill entering the club on Friday (May 26), Virat Kohli (973 from 16 matches in IPL 2016), Jos Buttler (863 from 17 matches in IPL 2022) and David Warner (848 from 17 matches in IPL 2016) had the distinction of scoring over 800 runs in a single IPL edition.

On Friday, Gill ended up scoring a stunning 129 off 60 balls. His knock was studded with seven boundaries and 10 sixes. With this he even broke Virender Sehwag's record for the highest individual score in an IPL Playoff fixture. Sehwag had scored 122 while playing for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2014. Gill's innings eventually helped GT beat MI and set up a clash with CSK in the finals.
