Indian women's hockey team's title victory in Asian Champions Trophy showcased their scoring capabilities, which had been questioned after their semifinal exit at the Asian Games.
India vs Japan women's hockey match highlights: The Indian women's hockey team secured the Asian Champions Trophy title, dethroning Japan by defeating them 4-0 in the final held at Ranchi on Sunday. Led by captain Savita Punia, the Indian team delivered an exceptional performance, with goals scored by Sangita Kumari (17'), Neha (46'), Lalremsiami (57'), and Vandana Katariya (60'). Following their victorious campaign, Hockey India acknowledged the team's efforts and announced a cash reward of INR 3 lakh for the team and INR 1.5 lakh for the support staff.
This tournament marked a significant moment for Indian women's hockey, as it showcased their scoring capabilities, which had been questioned after their semifinal exit at the Asian Games. India left no room for doubt and even defeated their arch-rivals, China, in the group stage. The team's defence, led by Savita Punia, also performed exceptionally well by successfully defending against three penalty corners in quick succession.

This achievement marks India's first title since December 2022 when the team, coached by Janneke Schopman, claimed the FIH Nations Cup in Valencia, securing qualification for the Pro League.
The start of India vs Japan final match was delayed by 50 minutes due to a malfunctioning floodlight at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh AstroTurf Hockey Stadium. Nevertheless, once the game began, the Indian team displayed their dominance, with the Indian men's team present in the audience to support them. The Indian men's team had previously won the continental tournament in Chennai in August.
