IND vs AUS Highlights Day 2: Nathan Lyon's 8-fer In Second Innings Stamps Australia's Dominance, Visitors Need 76 To Win

IND vs AUS, 3rd Test Day 2: Pujara's innings was one of the rare positives for Team India as he scored 59 off 142 balls on a pitch where Shreyas Iyer's 26 was the second best score by an Indian.

Australia's dominance in the Indore Test continued on what was Day 2 of the third fixture of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Holkar Stadium on Friday. While Australia ended Day 1 at 156/4, they could not add much to their overnight score which perhaps ignited hopes of an India comeback. R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav scalped three wickets apiece to bowl the Aussies out for 197 in their first innings.

In the second innings, India trailing by 88 runs, did manage to put up a better show than their first innings but wasn't a dominating performance which was needed for them to help give enough runs to their bowlers to defend in the fourth innings. Veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon was at his absolute best as he scalped as many as 8 wickets in India's second batting innings as the team was bowled out for 163, implying Australia needing 76 to win At Stumps on Day 2.

Cheteshwar Pujara's innings was one the rare positives for Team India on Day 2 as he scored 59 off 142 balls on a pitch where Shreyas Iyer's 26 off 27 was the second best score by an Indian in this innings. Axar Patel remained unbeaten in the end but ran out of partners with Lyon getting rid of last man Mohammed Siraj for the first time in his career.

Despite seemingly suffering from a bit of a cramp, the 33-year-old's bowling figures eventually read 23.3-1-64-8. With 3 wickets in the first innings, Lyon will finish the match with 11 wickets to his name. With the off-spinner getting India's last man out a little more than 2 overs remaining on the day, stumps was called by the umpires which means Australia would start Day 3 with their chase of 76.

Talking about his innings after the end of the day's play, Pujara described it as a difficult pitch to bat on. He was hopeful of bowling the opposition out for under 76 eveb though he admitted that it might not be enough.

With 30 wickets falling in the first two days of the Test match, there is no reason why 10 more can't fall on Day 3 but whether they all combined can take the team past the winning score, that is the question which would determine whether the scoreline of the series will read 2-1 or 3-0. For now, the touring team look like favourites to register their first win in the series.
