IND vs BAN, 2nd Test: Ishant Becomes 1st Indian To Take 5-wicket Haul In D/N Test
Ishant Sharma created a first of sorts as he bagged 5-22 against Bangladesh to became the 1st Indian bowler to pick up a 5-wicket haul in Day-night Tests with the pink ball.
Seasoned seamer Ishant Sharma spearhead a terrific performance by Indian pacers to bowl out Bangladesh for a paltry 106 on the opening day of the historic pink ball Day-night Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Ishant Sharma created a first of sorts as he bagged 5-22 against Bangladesh to became the 1st Indian bowler to pick up a 5-wicket haul in Day-night Tests with the pink ball. Ishant had got support from the lethal Indian pace trio as Umesh Yadav (3/29) snapped three while Mohammed Shami (2/36) took two wickets to decimate the visitors to a below par score in their first innings.
After opting to bat against India in their maiden Pink ball Test, Bangladesh got off to a poor start by losing their opener Imrul Kayes to a seaming delivery from Ishant Sharma in the seventh over of the first innings. Ishant delivered a beautiful leg-cutter that swung it to catch Imrul off guard. Imrul’s wicket also meant that Ishant Sharma became the first Indian to take a wicket with a pink ball.
After scalping opener Kayes. Ishant wreaked through the Bangladeshi middle order and tail to snap the wickets of Mahmudullah, Nayeem Hasan, Ebadat Hossain and concussion substitute Mehidy Hasan to create history at Eden Gardens. He dismissed Mahmudullah after inducing a thick edge to have wicketkeeper Saha pluck a brilliant diving catch behind the stumps. He then bowled a straight line and struck timber by carthwheeling the stumps of Nayeem Hasan and Ebadat Hossain It is notable that Mohammad Nisar was the first-ever Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul with the red ball in Test cricket against England at Lord's in 1932. Interestingly, current head-coach Ravi Shastri holds the record of maiden five-wicket haul by an Indian with the white ball when he took five wickets against Australia at WACA in 1991.A pumped up @ImIshant after he picks up his 5-wkt haul in the #PinkBallTest.#TeamIndia pacers have bowled out Bangladesh for 106 runs in the first innings. pic.twitter.com/Z3k0yvEwlM
