Here's Why BCCI Lost Its Golden Tick On X (Twitter)

Indian cricket team followers were shocked to see the golden tick removed from the official 'X' account of the BCCI.

BCCI Golden Tick controversy: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to participate in the Indian government’s 'Har Ghar Tiranga campaign' after which the board lost its golden tick on official X (formerly Twitter). For the unversed, the golden blue tick signifies a legally verified account. Ahead of the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to official X on August 12, requesting citizens to change their profile pictures to tricolour on social media to "deepen the bond between our beloved country and us". Heeding to PM's request, BCCI changed their display picture of official X to the Indian flag and a few minutes later, their golden tick was removed.

"In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us," Modi’s tweet read.

Why did the BCCI lose its Golden Tick on official X?

Indian cricket team followers were shocked to see the golden tick removed from the official 'X' account of the BCCI. The reason behind this is the new guidelines of the microblogging website. As per the guidelines of X in place, verified accounts need to use their real display pictures and names. BCCI had Indian cricket team logo as its display picture before changing it to the Indian flag. BCCI's golen tick will be restored once official 'X' are done verifying their profile. Notably, if BCCI again changes their current profile picture, they will lose the golden tick once again.

Earlier, BCCI had a blue tick before Elon Musk acquired Twitter (now official X) and made a sea of changes to the social media platform. As per the new guidelines, golden ticks are given to official and certified companies. BCCI was given the golden tick as it is an autonomous institution.
