Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana Opens Up About Walking Out Post Harmanpreet Kaur's Behaviour In 3rd ODI

Nigar Sultana expected words of encouragement from Harmanpreet Kaur-led India that could have motivated their players.

Harmanpreet Kaur's behaviour during the third ODI match against Bangladesh grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Indian captain wasn't pleased with some of the decisions that were made by the on-field umpires during the match including her own dismissal post which she had hit the stumps. However, her gesture after the match was even more questionable. During a photo session in which both the team players' were to participate, she told the Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana to call the umpires too, maintaining that the umpires played a part in Bangladesh's victory.

Harmanpreet's behaviour hadn't gone down well with the Bangladesh skipper and she had withdrawn from the photo session with the trophy along with her teammates. And now the 25-year-old has broken her silence on the entire incident and given her point of view. She said that there was no point in staying there as Harmanpreet didn't respect the Bangladesh team.

"We expected appreciation from them and some words of encouragement which would have motivated our players," Sultana told The Daily Star.



"But what they did certainly does not leave a good message. The two teams were standing for the photo session and there was no point saying such a thing in front of the players as they could complain to the match referee according to the rules. Obviously, it felt bad when they were not showing respect. So, I felt there was no point in standing there as I respect my teammates and I can't accept that," she added.

Following the incident, Kaur was handed a suspension for the next two international matches following two separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct. She was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision."
