Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis Hospitalised After He Walks Off The Field Complaining Of Chest Pain

As Kusal Mendis was walking off the field, he was seen wailing with pain, with one of his hands placed on his chest. The Sri Lankan has been taken to a hospital in Dhaka for diagnosis.

New Delhi: The second test match of the two-match series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is being played in Mirpur. Sri Lankan player Kusal Mendis suddenly experienced chest pain on the very first day of this Test match, after which he had to be taken to the hospital for a precautionary checkup. The unfortunate incident took place when Mendis was fielding in the slips for Sri Lanka during the 23rd over of Bangladesh's innings.

Taking note of the situation, Sri Lankan team's physio came running to the ground and examined Mendis. Seeing that the player needed better medical attention, he decided to take the Sri Lankan off the field midway. As Mendis was walking off the field, he was seen wailing with pain, with one of his hands placed on his chest. According to several media reports, Mendis has been taken to a hospital in Dhaka for diagnosis.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Bangladesh Cricket Board's doctor Manzoor Hossain Chowdhury said in a statement that it was very important to take Mendis to the hospital post seeing the condition he was in. He said Mendis was earlier suffering from dehydration and maybe this might be the reason he experienced chest pain during the match. Till now there is no official statement from the hospital.

The ongoing Test series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is currently tied at 0-0, with the first Test ending in a draw.

Talking about Mendis, he is 27-years-old and has played 49 Test matches for Sri Lanka. In the BAN vs SL first Test in Chattogram, Mendis played handy knocks of 54 and 48 which helped his team draw the series opener.
