Third Ashra Of Ramadan Begins From The 21st Roza — Know Its Significance And Practices

The third Ashra of the holy month of Ramadan begins after Maghrib on the 20th fast. Worship during this period is believed to grant freedom from hell.

Ramadan is considered the holiest month in Islam, filled with immense blessings and mercy. During this sacred period, devout Muslims fast and engage in prayers, seeking forgiveness and divine grace. It is believed that Allah forgives all sins of those who sincerely worship and observe fasts during Ramadan.

Fasting in Ramadan lasts for 29 to 30 days, and these days are divided into three Ashras (stages), each consisting of 10 days:

  • First Ashra (Days 1-10): The Ashra of Mercy and Blessings
  • Second Ashra (Days 11-20): The Ashra of Forgiveness
  • Third Ashra (Days 21-30): The Ashra of Freedom from Hellfire

The Importance Of The Third Ashra

On March 21, 2025, the 20th day of Ramadan will conclude, and after Maghrib prayers, the third and final Ashra will begin. This stage holds great significance as it includes the most sacred nights of Ramadan—Shab-e-Qadr or Laylatul Qadr, also known as The Night of Power.

During the last 10 nights of Ramadan, five nights are considered particularly holy, and prayers made on these nights are believed to be highly effective. These nights are marked by intense worship, supplications, and seeking salvation from Hellfire.

The third Ashra also marks the beginning of Itikaf, where devout Muslims dedicate themselves to prayer and worship in mosques or at home. Additionally, Zakat (charity) and Fitra (obligatory almsgiving) are given during this period.

Shab-e-Qadr (The Nights of Power):

In Islam, Shab-e-Qadr or Laylatul Qadr is considered the holiest night of the year. It falls during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, and its exact date is unknown, but it is observed on five odd-numbered nights:

  • 21st night – March 22, 2025
  • 23rd night – March 24, 2025
  • 25th night – March 26, 2025
  • 27th night – March 28, 2025
  • 29th night – March 30, 2025

Among these, the 27th night of Ramadan is regarded as the most significant. It is believed that on this night, the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Worshippers engage in intense prayers, recite the Quran, and seek Allah’s mercy, as it is believed that this night is better than a thousand months in terms of blessings and rewards.
