Sawan Monday 2026: How To Break Ekadashi Fast And Observe Somwar Vrat On August 24

August 24, 2026, brings the last Sawan Monday alongside Ekadashi Parana. Devotees observing both fasts should break the Ekadashi fast during the prescribed Dwadashi Parana window, then continue their Monday vrat.

August 24, 2026, is the last Monday of Sawan. Many calendars also indicate that the fast breaks on Shravan Shukla Ekadashi on this day. Therefore, devotees are wondering how to break the Ekadashi fast first, as the Sawan Monday fast will begin. Learn how to break the fast and begin the Monday fast while observing both fasts according to religious rules.

According to the scriptures, those observing the Ekadashi fast must break it within the prescribed timeframe; otherwise, the fast will not yield any benefits. Ekadashi fasts should be broken before the end of Dwadashi.

The Narada Purana, among others, prescribes the practice of breaking the Ekadashi fast along with the Dwadashi fast. Therefore, the fast should be broken only during the prescribed Parana period after Harivasara ends.

Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Paran (Putrada Ekadashi 2026 Paran Rules)

In 2026, the date of Shravan Shukla Ekadashi begins on August 23rd and ends on the morning of August 24th. The Panchang calculations give the time for Parana on August 24th as 1:41 PM to 4:16 PM.

What To Eat During Parana To Continue The Monday Fast

After the Parana, the Monday sadhana can be continued. If someone wishes to abstain from food on Monday as well, they should consume a light, sattvik fruit meal during the Parana and abstain from food and salt for the rest of the day. In the evening, worship Lord Shiva and perform aarti. This way, the Ekadashi Parana is completed according to the Dwadashi rituals, and the Shiva worship on Sawan Monday will also remain intact.

Keep This In Mind

Skipping the Parana (breaking the fast) on Mondays alone is not considered to be in accordance with the Ekadashi fasting rules. It is considered essential to conclude the Ekadashi fast on Dwadashi.

FAQs

1. Can Ekadashi fasting be observed while fasting on Sawan Monday on August 24th?
