When Is Karwa Chauth?
According to the Panchang, the fast of Karwa Chauth is observed on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, which is today, October 20, 2024. The time for worship will be from 5:46 PM to 7:09 PM, and the moonrise time will be at 7:54 PM.
On Karwa Chauth, women observe the fast and perform Solah Shringar, worship Goddess Karwa, and after moonrise at night, they offer arghya to the moon and see their husbands through a sieve. They then break their fast only after drinking water from their husbands' hands.
Before observing the Karwa Chauth fast, there is a tradition of having Sargi before sunrise. After having Sargi, the fast is vowed, and consuming anything after that is prohibited. If by mistake anything is consumed, it can break the fast.
However, it sometimes happens that, knowingly or unknowingly, the fast may get broken. Even accidentally drinking water can break the fast. If such a situation arises during the fast, don’t panic. The scriptures provide some guidelines to rectify unintentional mistakes. In such cases, if the fast gets broken on Karwa Chauth, you can follow these rules.
What To Do If The Fast Is Broken By Mistake?
On Karwa Chauth, one should eat and drink only after the moonrise. However, if the fast gets unintentionally broken before the moon appears, you should immediately take a bath. After that, wear clean clothes. Then, offer prayers to Shiv, Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Goddess Karwa, seeking forgiveness. Afterward, continue your fast without consuming anything until the moon rises.
In the evening, after the moonrise, offer arghya to Chandra Dev and pray to him for forgiveness as well. Additionally, chant the Chandra mantra and Shiv mantra using a rudraksha mala. To avoid any negative effects of breaking the fast, donate items used for Solah Shringar according to your means. Doing so ensures that the repercussions of breaking the fast are mitigated, and the fast is deemed successful.
