Indian Prepare Tri-Colour Barfi At Home This Republic Day

This tri-colour barfi is a quick and easy dessert, that can be prepared in under half an hour, making it perfect for the Republic Day celebration.

As Republic day is just around the corner, India prepares to celebrate 76th year with great pride and honour. January 26 is more that just a date, it is a moment to reflect on our nation's incredible journey, rich heritage and diverse culture. While parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and cultural events set the tone for this significant day, add a touch of tricolour pride to the celebration by preparing a delicious and vibrant dessert at home.


Tri-colour Barfi is a delightful treat inspired by the three hues of our national flag- saffron, white and green. Made with grated coconut, khoya, and sugar, this barfi combines simplicity with a splash of festivity. Each layer is infused with natural or food-safe colours to reflect the tricolour, creating a stunning dessert that perfectly complements the Republic day celebration.

Ingredients

  • 300 Gram Grated Coconut
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Saffron Food Colour
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Green Food Colour
  • 200 Gram Khoya
  • 2 Tablespoon Ghee

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat a pan and add 1 small spoon of desi ghee, add the khoya to the pan and stir continuously on low-medium flame until it becomes soft.

Step 2

Once the khoya is soft, add 1 cup of sugar. Stir the mixture continuously until the sugar melts completely.

Step 3

Add the grated coconut to the mixture and mix well. Sprinkle cardamom powder and mix everything thoroughly.

Step 4

Turn off the gas and divide the mixture into three equal parts.

Step 5

Add saffron food colour to one part and mix it well, agg green food colour to another part and mi well. Leave the third part white.

Step 6

Grease the tray or plate with a small amount of ghee or to prevent stickiness.

Step 7

Spread the saffron-coloured layer evenly at the bottom of the tray, pressing it gently with your hands. Add the second layer in white colour and spread it evenly, finally add the last layer in green colour and spread.

Step 8

Once the layers are set, use a knife to cut the barfi into pieces of your desired size. Gently remove the pieces from the tray. Your Tricolour Barfi is ready to serve.
