During the 15th minute of the game, Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon hurried to the touchline to notify the referee. Granada supporters had informed him about the distressing incident involving a fan who had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Play continued for an additional five minutes before being suspended, as medical staff attended to the fan in need.

The team doctors, along with the players, left the sidelines to assist the fan in distress. The players stayed on the field for about 40 minutes before eventually heading to the dressing rooms.

Reportedly, the fan was transported to the hospital in a private ambulance after being evacuated from their seat.

Ultimately, the match was abandoned, and the league confirmed the unfortunate news that the fan had passed away.

Granada fans showed their appreciation by applauding Simón for promptly alerting the referee about the situation.

Athletic Bilbao had taken a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a sixth-minute goal from Iñaki Williams, before the game was eventually abandoned.

As per La Liga's official website, the match will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date, with the specifics to be announced in the coming days.
