This Australian Model Was Fined Rs 1.43 Lakh At Airport For Her Subway Sandwich. Here Is Why

Customs officials at the Australian airport penalized Jessica Lee, an Australian model, a hefty fine.

Traveling makes us exceedingly hungry, as frequent travellers may attest. Even the greatest among us might have tremendous hunger pangs after long flights, trains, ferries, or vehicle rides. There are several fast-food restaurants, such as Domino's and Subway, that can be consumed on the move. Can you imagine how much a Subway sandwich would cost you? What if it cost Rs. 1.43 lakh rupees?

Customs officials at the Australian airport penalized Jessica Lee, an Australian model, a hefty fine. This was due to her failure to declare two components to customs inspectors after arriving in Europe after her vacation.

The 19-year-old posted the incident on her social media account, where the video quickly went viral, receiving thousands of views. Jessica Lee was flying from Europe to Australia and had stopped in Singapore for a foot-long Subway sandwich after an 11-hour journey.

"I ate six inches before my second flight and then saved the other six inches for the flight which they're more than happy with," she said in the video as per the Sun.

Lee, on the other hand, was unable to complete the Subway sandwich and did not disclose her lunch upon arriving at Australia's airport customs.

"I thought the little declaration thing you do is for your carry-ons and your luggage, so I didn't tick chicken and I didn't tick lettuce," Lee said.

This resulted in a $2,664 fine, or Rs. 1.43 Lakhs, to be paid within 28 days. Jessica had also lately lost her work and was unsure how she would pay her rent and this hefty charge.

"I am very aware this is my mistake and I do take ownership; I am paying the fine. Don't copy my expensive mistakes," she concluded.

The odd news of the Subway sandwich elicited a rush of emotions. Some said Jessica should have learned the rules of her home nation, while others thought she should have been warned before being charged the hefty fee.
