Kashmiri Teacher Designs Fully-Automatic Solar Car, Gets Shout-Out From Omar Abdullah
His initial plan was to design a car for people with disabilities. However, his plan did not materialise owing to lack of funds.
New Delhi: Amid the soaring fuel prices across the country, the story of a man, who designed a car powered by solar energy, has gone viral on the social media. Bilal Ahmed, a maths teacher from Srinagar, have been garnering praises ever since the photo of a sedan with doors opening like luxury cars went viral. The photos show that the car has panels on almost all sides, starting from the bonnet to the rear windshield.
“Cars like Mercedes, Ferrari, BMW are just a dream for a common person. Only few people are able to afford it while it remains a dream for others to drive such cars and roam in it. I thought of something to give a luxurious feel to the people,” Ahmed told Rising Kashmir.

As per reports, his initial plan was to design a car for people with disabilities. However, his plan did not materialise owing to lack of funds. Now, amid rising fuel prices, he decided to develop a car that works entirely on solar energy.

Speaking to Daily Excelsior, Ahmed said that he used monocrystalline solar panels, which are known to generate maximum energy even with less solar energy, for his car. He said that these are more efficient and occupy a low surface area.
Also, while most sports cars have a seating capacity of two, keeping in mind the idea of cost-effectiveness, Ahmed modelled his car to accommodate up to four people.
He added that so far, he has spent a total of over Rs 15 lakh in making the fully-automatic car, without any financial assistance from any sector.
“When I began the project and even after I completed it, no one provided me with any financial assistance; if I would have got the necessary support, perhaps I would have been India’s Elon Musk,” Ahmed said.
After the phot went viral, netizens have been praising Ahmed for his innovation. Here are some of the reactions:

This is really good. There is a company in Germany who has developed cars which are recharged on solar, Sono motors. It’s a commercially viable project and someone should invest in it.
