'INDIA Demands': Oppn Protests In Parliament, Seeks PM Modi's Statement On Manipur

Opposition parties took out a protest on Parliament premises demanding PM Modi's statement on Manipur violence in both houses.

The third day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to see another stormy start as the Opposition continued to corner the government on the Manipur issue. The recently formed INDIA alliance staged a protest on the Parliament premises, demanding Prime Minister Modi's statement on Manipur in both houses.

The monsoon session of the parliament began on a stormy note day after a viral video of Manipur women being paraded naked surfaced on social media triggering massive outrage. The incident evoked sharp reactions from the Prime Minister and CM N Biren Singh. The Supreme Court also cracked the whip with its ultimatum to the Centre. Even as the government said it was ready for a discussion, the opposition continues to mount pressure demanding PM Modi's statement inside Parliament.

Earlier in the day, AAP MP Raghav Chada said that the country demands that the government and PM Modi should speak on the issue of Manipur. "It is the responsibility of the Central govt to restore peace in the country. Today we are going to protest against this issue in the Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman should allow us to discuss on the Manipur issue," he added.

BSP Chief Mayawati tweeted that despite agreeing to discuss Manipur, it is sad and unfortunate that the time of the first two days of the current session of Parliament was wasted on the rule of law dispute. "Discussion and government statement on Manipur is necessary," she further said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "We also want the House to function and we want the PM to answer (on the Manipur situation). We don't want any ruckus to be created in the Parliament."
