Manipur Stands 'United': CM Biren Singh Meets Injured, Kin Of Deceased After Fresh Violence

Manipur Violence: CM N Biren Singh after visiting the families of the deceased said that the government is committed to ensure swift and thorough investigation and to bring the perpetrators behind the attack to justice

Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday visited the families of those killed in a fresh spate of violence at Lilong Chingjao in the strife-torn northeast state’s Thoubal district on Monday. The Chief Minister after visiting the families of the deceased said that the government is committed to ensure swift and thorough investigation and to bring the perpetrators behind the attack to justice. He also asserted that the state stands united as a community.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Singh wrote, “Visited the families of the deceased persons of the incident that happened yesterday at Lilong to offer my heartfelt condolences and express my sympathy during this difficult time. We stand united as a community, and our Government is committed to ensuring swift and thorough investigations to bring those responsible to justice.”

The Manipur Chief Minister also visited the injured in the violence and currently undergoing treatment at the Raj Medicity hospital in the state’s capital Imphal. After visiting the injured, he said that the government strongly condemns all forms of violence and mass combing operations have been launched to nab the culprits behind the attack. The Chief Minister while saying that nobody is above the law, added that the culprits will be punished according to the law.  

“Visited the injured civilians who are being treated at Raj Medicity, following the incidents of violence in Lilong Chingjao. We strongly condemn all forms of violence, and the state government has launched mass combing operations to nab the culprits and the culprit will be punished according to the law. No one is above the law,” he wrote in another post on X.

Four people were reportedly killed and 14 others were left injured when armed miscreants opened fire at a group of people in Thoubal district’s Lilong Chingjao area on Monday following a brawl over extortion of money. More On It: 4 Shot Dead In Fresh Violence In Manipur, Curfew Reimposed In 5 Districts

Earlier in the day, the Manipur Chief Minister also visited the injured security personnel at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. Chief Minister Singh said that the government is committed to tackling those who are destabilising the state and ensuring justice for the victims with stern action.

Informing about the visit, he wrote on X, “Visited the injured personnel of security forces at RIMS, following the tragic attack at Moreh, Tengnoupal District today. My heartfelt thoughts are with the victims and their families in this challenging time. We’re committed to tackling those bent on destabilizing Manipur, ensuring justice for the victims with decisive actions against the responsible parties.”

According to the Manipur police, the injured security personnel, G. Ponkhamlung, a rifleman of the 5th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), was injured in his thigh by a splinter during an ambush by unknown armed miscreants at Moreh in the state’s Tengnoupal district on Saturday.
