Manipur: Army Conducting Round-The-Clock Patrols Along Myanmar Border To Maintain Peace
Manipur Violence: The Army has intensified area domination patrols along the state's border with Myanmar as part of elaborate security measures to maintain peace in Manipur.
To address the fear of communities living in remote and vulnerable places away from Imphal, the Indian Army has devised multi-pronged strategies, including conducting area domination patrols along the state's border with Myanmar. The Army, in consultation with the Manipur government and other stakeholders, has worked out elaborate security measures to maintain peace in Manipur, which has been rocked by violence.
"Stringent measures and inter alia a robust multi-agency intelligence grid is in place to ensure continuance of 'hard earned' peace in Manipur," the Army said.
Over 128 Army and Assam Rifles columns, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) have been engaged in area domination exercises to ensure early restoration of complete normalcy in Manipur.
In the past 72 hours, long-duration patrols, grouped with women soldiers of the Assam Rifles, were sent to fringe and vulnerable areas identified in consultation with the state government.
The Army's area domination patrols visited several villages across communities, interacted with locals, women and influencers, to reassure them of their safety and also to provide the much-needed succour.
"Rendering medical assistance 'in situ' by para-medics including undertaking prophylactic medical evacuation were some amongst many activities that were undertaken by these patrols," the statement said.
An incident of firing at Saparmeina village in Senapati district was immediately responded to by the security forces and brought under control.
While locals have expressed their yearning for lasting peace, measures like round the clock area domination, surveillance over designated flash points, engagement with civil society organizations and employment of quadcopters, tracker dogs and UAVs are in place to thwart any misadventure attempt by inimical elements.
Domination of the India-Myanmar border is also being undertaken to deter any misadventure from insurgent groups.
"Round the clock vigil through domination patrols, employment of UAVs, quadcopters and tracker dogs have significantly contributed towards deterring various insurgent groups in taking advantage of the prevailing situation," the Army said.
At least 73 people were killed, 231 injured and 1,700 houses, including religious places, burnt in the ethnic violence that rocked the northeastern state recently.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles on Monday carried out air evacuation of 96 stranded people from Phaisenjang, near the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district.
All the 96 persons were rehabilitated at the Assam Rifles camp since clashes broke out on May 3 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
The Indian Army also appealed to all sections in Manipur to support the efforts of the security forces in sustaining the hard-earned peace and promoting harmony and quell any attempt to spread hate and misinformation.
