Congress Claims Nyay Yatra 'Attacked By BJP Goons' In Assam, CM Sarma Hits Back With 'Most Corrupt' Jibe

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back at the Congress saying no one could be “more corrupt” that the Gandhis.

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday alleged its Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was attacked by “BJP goons” in Assam and accused the saffron party of trying to “trample and demolish” the democratic right guaranteed by the Indian Constitution, news agency PTI reported. According to the report, the banners and posters put up to welcome the party’s rally was vandalised in Lakhimpur town.

Condemning the attack, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on X, “We strongly condemn the shameful attack on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra vehicles and tearing of the Congress party's banners and posters by BJP goons in Lakhimpur, Assam. In the last 10 years, the BJP has attempted to trample and demolish every right and justice guaranteed by the Constitution to the people of India. It wants to subjugate their voices, thereby hijacking democracy.”

The party president, however, asserted that they will not be cowed down by the intimidation tactic of the BJP.

AICC general secretary KC Venugopal shared a video of the purported attack and wrote, "Want more evidence of how scared 'MostCorrupt' CM Himanta is of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra? Look at his goons vandalise our Congress posters and vehicles! He's so rattled because of the huge impact the Yatra is making, he will stoop to any level."

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back at the Congress saying no one could be “more corrupt” that the Gandhis.

Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “Anything abusive, that comes from the so-called Gandhi family, I consider it as a blessing. Because this gives me the energy to fight against a family which considers itself to be the most powerful. But I want to ask only one thing, can anyone be more corrupt then the Gandhi’s? - Bofors Scam, National Herald Scam, Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the escape of Anderson, 2G scam, Coal Scam, etc (the list is huge and it goes on & on).”
