Bihar Train Accident: Eight-Year-Old Girl, Mother From Assam's Tinsukia Among Four Victims

Bihar Train Accident: A woman and her daughter from Assam, were among the four who died in the Bihar Train Accident on Wednesday night when the North East Express derailed in Bihar’s Buxar. The accident occurred near the Raghunathpur station.

The deceased have been identified as Usha Bhandari (33) and her daughter Akriti Bhandari (8). The duo, hailing from Sadiya in Assam’s Tinsukia district, died on the spot. Usha's husband, Deepak Bhandari, who was also on the ill-fated train, was injured in the accident.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s office, said, “HCM Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his deepest condolences at the passing away of two passengers, Mrs Bhandari and Ms Bhandari from Tinsukia district, travelling on train 12506 in the unfortunate derailment incident at Buxar last evening.”  

Speaking exclusively with ABP Live, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Sabyasachi De said, “The bodies of the deceased were handed over to Deepak Bhandari at the accident site. The Railways has arranged to bring the bodies to their hometown in Sadiya.”

The CPRO said that while two persons from Assam lost their lives in the accident, two from the state were injured. The injured persons are Deepak Bhandari and railway attendant Sirajul Islam (36) from Nagaon district. Islam was immediately shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, and is currently undergoing treatment there.  

“We arranged a special train to bring back around 1,000 passengers who were stranded in Bihar’s Danapur railway station. The special train left with all the passengers at 5 am on Thursday and is scheduled to arrive at its last destination Kamakhya junction railway station in Assam’s Guwahati at 11 pm tonight,” CPRO De added.

CPRO De further said that the Indian Railways has already given an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh each to the passengers who have received major injuries, and Rs 50,000 to all those with minor injuries.
