Assam Floods: The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday with floodwaters inundating new areas over the past 24 hours. As many as 3,07,489 people in 756 villages under 49 revenue circles spread across 21 districts of the state still remain affected by the floods. Scores of houses have been completely inundated in the affected areas. The floods have claimed the lives of 15 people so far this year.

The districts still reeling under the flood waters are Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kokrakhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, and Udalguri.

On the other hand, 87 relief distribution centres are functioning in these districts.

The flood waters have also severely affected over 21,591 hectares of crop areas across the affected districts. Moreover, a total of 2,69,633 domestic animals and poultry have been affected by the floods across 15 districts.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), respective district administrations, and the Centre's Aapda Mitra volunteers are tirelessly conducting rescue and relief operations.
