'Might Be Operating From Pak': Assam CM Himanta Reports Hacking Attempt On His Facebook Account

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X to report an attempted breach of his Facebook account, hinting at possible origins from Pakistan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to report an attempted breach of his Facebook account, hinting at possible origins from Pakistan. Authorities are actively investigating the cyber intrusion, the Chief Minister said.

"Unknown hackers made an attempt to hack my Facebook account this evening. Preliminary information suggests the hacker might be operating from Pakistan. Investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators," he posted on X, with a screenshot of his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a significant drug seizure valued at over Rs 100 crore took place in Assam's Karimganj district. According to a PTI report, a joint operation between the special task force of Assam Police and Karimganj district police led to the arrest of four individuals involved in the illicit drug trade.

The confiscated contraband, believed to be the largest drug seizure in eastern India in terms of market value, included 5.1 kg of heroin, 64,000 Yaba tablets, and four packets of foreign cigarettes. The STF deputy inspector general, Parthasarathi Mahanta, credited the escalating prices of narcotics to the relentless efforts and proactive measures of the Assam Police against drug trafficking.

Providing insights into the operation, Mahanta stated, "Acting on intelligence regarding the transportation of drugs from Mizoram, our team intercepted a vehicle with Mizoram registration at Suprakandi, Karimganj." The subsequent search led to the discovery of the concealed narcotics within the vehicle's trunk.

The arrested individuals comprised three residents of Mizoram, including a woman from Thenzawl, and a local from Karimganj.

In response to the successful operation, Chief Minister Sarma praised the Assam Police via X post, acknowledging it as a landmark drug seizure in the state. Assam's director general of police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, expressed gratitude for the recognition, reaffirming the police force's dedication to achieving a drug-free Assam.
