Wife Of Kashmiri Separatist Yasin Malik Inducted In Pakistan Caretaker PM Kakar's Cabinet: Report

Yasin Malik's wife, Mishaal Hussain Malik, has been inducted into the newly formed cabinet of Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Mishaal Hussain Malik, wife of Kashmiri separatist leader and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, has been inducted into the newly formed cabinet of Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, as reported by news agency Reuters. Malik, who was convicted in terror funding cases, was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 25, 2022. According to Reuters, Mishaal Hussain Mali has been appointed as Pakistan’s Minister for Human Rights.

Pakistan’s former central bank chief Shamshad Akhtar was appointed Finance Minister in the interim government, and former provincial minister Sarfaraz Bugti has been given the charge of Interior Minister.

Earlier on Monday, Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar was sworn in as Pakistan's caretaker prime minister to see the country through to an election due in months, reported news agency AFP. "I will strive to preserve the Islamic ideology, which is the basis for the creation of Pakistan... I will not allow my personal interests to influence my official conduct or my official decisions," the 52-year-old said in a ceremony broadcast live on TV, according to AFP.

Kakar, a first-time Senator, is an ethnic Pushtun from Balochistan and a member of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), a party considered close to the powerful establishment of the country.

He was administered the oath of office by President Arif Alvi in a ceremony held at the Aiwan-i-Sadr (the President House) in Islamabad. He became the eighth interim prime minister of Pakistan. Under Pakistan’s constitution, elections should be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the parliament's lower house.

JKLF was banned in 2019. Earlier, Rubaiya Sayeed, the sister of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed identified Malik in connection with her kidnapping on December 8, 1989.
