What We Know Of Shooting Of Another Black Man In Atlanta Amid BLM Protests? Read Here

New Delhi: While The people of the United States were still demanding justice for George Floyd, Atlanta saw a massive protest where an African-America man was killed by law enforcement officers during an arrest in the city of Atlanta of the southeastern Georgia state. As per the press release by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the incident took place on June 12 when police responded to a complaint about a man sleeping inside a vehicle parked at the drive-thru of a local Wendy's restaurant and was obstructing other customers.
Upon arrival, officers found 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks indeed asleep and intoxicated, Sputnik reported.
"During a physical struggle with officers, Brooks obtained one of the officer's tasers and began to flee from the scene. Officers pursued Brooks on foot and during the chase, Brooks turned and pointed the taser at the officer. The officer fired his weapon, striking Brooks," the press release read.
Brooks was taken to a local hospital where he died after surgery, according to the GBI. One officer was treated for an injury and discharged from the hospital.
Police Chief Resigned
After the incident, the mayor informed that the police chief in the US city of Atlanta resigned. According to reports by CNN, the Atlanta police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks has been terminated and a second officer involved has been placed on administrative duty.
Chaos In Atlanta
The protesters surrounded the Wendy's where Brooks was shot and then made their way to nearby Interstate 75/85, bringing the major thoroughfare to a standstill.
The Wendy's where Brooks lost his life was in flames Saturday night, and a crowd also set fire to automobiles near the fast-food restaurant. Earlier in the day, police used tear gas and a flashbang to try to clear the crowd there.
The incident was filmed by a witness. The incident comes at a moment when the entire US is roiled by protests triggered by the death of George Floyd under police custody in Minneapolis.
